Occasionally the printing of a large work would be shared between two or more printing shops, probably for reasons of speed of production. These collaborations are rarely indicated in colophons and were usually organised by a merchant bookseller whose name does appear in the colophon. They are inferred from the use of identifiable distinctive typographical material by the printers involved in the participation.
